Classroom Organization

I want my students to have creative ownership of how our classroom is set up and organized. It is our shared space, and we must co-design it together. We can collaboratively choose the elemental design features that will make them feel most comfortable in our learning environment. Our daily materials will be organized by colours, separated by months.

I will ask them what art pieces they’d like to have up on the walls. I will ask them to tell me what colours they’d like to see and the images that make them feel their best. I think it’s really important to have a “relaxing station” for those organic moments of self-regulation.

I would like to have a big comfy sofa in the corner surrounded by books, plants and a cozy blanket. I think adding personal touches and common items that we all have at home, can do wonders for our classroom’s atmosphere. I believe that ambient lighting can be a very useful tool to help our learners in moments of anxiety or stress.

I will also have a poster hung up close to the front board that illustrates the Seven Sacred Teachings. As a class, I believe that every part of our design will and must be incorporated into our daily tasks. Every part of our classroom design has a purpose.
