I believe that it is very important to have my class directly involved with our goal setting.
I think it is important to me to let my students voice their thoughts and opinions especially when it comes to setting our expectations for the classroom. Their empowerment and sense of self worth is of the upmost importance to me.
I will start off by asking them a couple of framing questions to help them think about what is of value and importance to them in our classroom. What do they think a learner should look like? Behave like? What skills do they think a learner should have in our classroom? What do they believe to be the most important expectations of our classroom? What am I willing to do or not do? How should I treat my friends, my teachers and myself?
I have no doubt that my students will be filled with an abundance of excellent ideas that will beautifully shape our classroom expectations and goals for the year. Providing them with choice and a platform to express themselves will always be at the forefront of my teachings.
